Jumby Bay, Antigua was known for several hundred years as Long Island. The reason is that the island often gives off an illusion that it is elongated in appearance when viewed from the Antiguan mainland. Later, however, it was found that a section of Jumby Bay, Antigua was actually a separate, uninhabited island located so close to the larger Jumby Bay that people thought it was but part of the latter. Now, the island is called Jumby Bay Island after the jumbies (“friendly ghosts”) described in local Arawak folklore.

Before Jumby Bay, Antigua became an exclusive resort and resident community it was first a sugar plantation, later flint mine. Much later, it was transformed into a sheep ranch which was rented to emancipated slaves.
In 1983, the island found its true calling as it was made into a private enclave that attracts visitors from all over the world, including the Northeastern United States, Europe, and South America. Now, the island is a famous celebrity hub and playground of some of the rich and famous.

Hotel representatives wait for you at the airport, ready to whisk you away via private ferry boat. From the airport to the dock, it’s only a short five-minute drive by minivan. Once you arrive at the dock, the welcome party consists of a choice of rum punch or soda, cool towels, and sweet Caribbean music on the radio.

I do a lot of interviews. At least two or three a week ranging from CNN to local newspapers. And no matter where the interview is running, there are some things you need to know about doing a good one:

What I recall from my time in Singapore, it was approximately 33 years since Singapore had gained Independence and had developed a fairly strict, structured school system of its own. From a young age, the children attend school for 5 full days per week, bringing home backpacks laden down with books workbooks. They were so heavy that kindergarteners first graders (equivalent) could barely carry/drag them! The children have a long day at school; typically both parents are working full time in order to afford the cost of living in Singapore. Evenings are spent on homework.

In addition to the full school week,most or many of the children have extracurricular activities on Saturdays, such as violin lessons, piano lessons and swimming lessons. Then on Sundays they might see their creativity tutor or an academic tutor to get ahead of the class or have foreign language lessons.

The issue behind the creativity tutors was in large part cultural (primarily ethnic Chinese culture), but also a result of the new Singaporean culture learning style implemented there. Independent thinking in young children is not encouraged nor is developing critical thinking a part of the teaching philosophy for more mature students. Students are encouraged in memorization and rewarded for rote learning.

Many British and American companies hadestablished their Asia regional headquarters in Singapore (which was developed as a multinational headquarters location for large companies in the event that when Hong Kong reverted to the Chinese mainland authority in 1997 it might no longer be friendly toward western businesses.) These British and American companies typically relocated one of their vice presidents to live in Singapore to be the Regional Vice President for the Asia-pacific rim, with the thought that they would be able to cultivate local managers to one day assume the regional vice president role.

When the multinational companies with regional headquarters realized how unlikely /or unsuccessful the promotion of a local resident would be to a leadership role in the organization, many of the parents working in these companies saw how different the decision-making process was began to devise ways to develop a new model for their children. A necessary trait for doing well with women is being comfortable in your own skin. If you are, you can be more assertive and bold, and your confidence will show through. Plus... it's more fun!

But I've witnessed a strange phenomenon among guys that keeps them from successfully approaching women. I find it strange, because it's not something I've really had to deal with too much, but apparently a lot of men feel this way.

They feel like they're being judged.

But not by women, mind you. They feel like they're being judged by those around them. They are so afraid of failing with a woman and looking like a fool to the people in their environment, that this actually keeps them from talking to women!

Some guys are afraid that the Bouncer at the club is watching him crash and burn. Others are afraid a group of frat boys at the bar is gonna make fun of them. Still others are worried what a bartender may think. Some even go so far as to accuse their friends as being the ones that will never let him live down a bad approach.

So my real question to this is: Why do you care?

Part of being confident is NOT CARING what other people think of you. Who is the Bouncer? Or the Bartender? Or the Frat Boys? Who are they to you? The answer should be - NO ONE. The only person who's opinion of you should matter is that of yourself. After all, you decide your own self-worth. Not others.

But that's a trap many guys fall into. They are too insecure to be comfortable in their own skin, so they get their self-worth from the opinions of others - even people they don't know and probably will never see again! This is especially true when it comes to women. Men who have a low sense of self often get validation from being successful with a woman. They think if the woman likes me, then I MUST be special! I must be worthwhile! I must have value!

Therein lies the issue of this idea. Success eludes them because they are afraid of other peoples' opinions. They'll avoid being judged to the point where they forgo their own happiness!

There is a way around this. It's a simple concept, but a powerful one. It is this

Don't allow yourself to feel their judgment.

When you do not allow yourself to be judged by others, you empower yourself to succeed. So how do you empower yourself to succeed? That answer's easy.

You fail.

I know it may seem counter intuitive that failure breeds success, but it's true. There's an old saying that if you're not failing, you're not working hard enough. You must fail if you want to progress, but more importantly, you must learn from your failures. So when you approach a woman, just keep this one thought in mind:

You are going to fail.

By thinking this way, you know the outcome of the interaction, and that makes it okay to fail, because that's the outcome you determined you were going to have in the first place. And no one can judge you on that, because that's what you set out to do. Failure is not something to be afraid of, it's something to learn from. Fail enough times, you will eventually succeed.

I'll end this article with an old philosophy of mine: Expect the worst, prepare for the best. If you expect the worst, you will never be disappointed with any outcome you have with a woman, because the worst you can expect is maybe a slap in the face.

If you want to prepare for the best, have solid material ready and work to understand what to say to a woman.

I think we can all agree that being lonely is no fun.

Few out there truly like being alone. Human beings show an aversion to this state, and for the most part we are social creatures who crave love.

However, thanks to the advent of television and the internet, more and more of us are lacking any real human contact because we no longer have to leave the house to get our information, entertainment, or even our "social" fixes.

Because of this, our ability to socialize can become greatly impaired. We suddenly don't want to go out in the world. We don't know how to meet new people. Even in a large city of millions of people, no one really knows how to meet each other.

So we go on being lonely, and feeling helpless about our situations.

But the fact of the matter is we are NOT helpless! Being lonely is not something that is forced on us, it's something we choose to experience because we do not make the effort necessary to escape it.

Here are a few things you can do right away to stop being lonely and start filling your life with new and interesting people.

1. Get out of the house!

All too often, people are lonely because they spend too much time ALONE. They are content to whittle away the hours of the day by watching TV or reading a book, or doing laundry. That's not to say you shouldn't do these things, but staying inside your home all day will do nothing to help you meet people.

You should set aside some time - every day if you can - to get out of the house and go somewhere there are other people. It doesn't matter if it's a mall, a sporting event, a trip to the grocery store, or whatever. Just get out there!

2. Talk with others!

Getting out of the house is one thing, but getting out and interacting with people is something completely different!

By not interacting with other people, you can go out all you want and still be lonely. Hitting a club and talking to no one the whole night isn't any more productive than staying home and reading a book!

If you want to meet new people, you have to TALK to them! There is no way around this.

Talk to both guys and girls, just to get warmed up. The more people you talk to, the easier it becomes.

3. Get contact information

Once you meet people, it's important to get their phone number or email address - it doesn't matter what as long as you get some way to communicate with them in the future!

Talking to people will only get you so far. You'll have met them for the night. But you want to build up a social circle around you so that you always have great people in your life.

When you meet someone you like and want to be friends with or want to date, do not be afraid to get their contact information so you can talk with them again!

4. Follow up

After you meet someone, don't just move on and forget about them. Contact them again! Talk on the phone. Find some time to hang out. Go to a movie. Go to a bar. Go out to eat.
