As mentioned yesterday I will be publishing additional letters from Shirley Booth's scrapbook that were never published before. In these personal letters written to Miss Booth I've learned repeatedly of the high esteem and love that various people all had for Miss Booth.
Here's the letter that clinched the interview published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1962 while she was starring in Hazel. Note the careful wording of this letter from the Screen Gems' Director of Publicity to allow writer Tom Congdon to visit her at her Cape Cod home during her vacation. Congdon would visit her in her Massachusetts cottage...and those letters will be revealed in this blog in the near future.
With the exception of my not publishing her actual street address in Chatham, Massachusetts, this letter is complete and unedited. My concern is to protect the privacy of the current owner, who may not wish any publicity or attention from curious visitors.

I suggested that the writer, Tom Congdon, see you in Hollywood after production has got under way. His editors feel, however, that this will result in a story with too great an emphasis on production and television. They maintain that they and their readers are primarily interested in Shirley Booth as a person and as one of the major acting talents in the world.
SEP continues to feel that the best Shirley Booth story will result from Tom Congdon spending a day or a day-and-a-half with you on the Cape. He, of course, would stay at a nearby motel and would arrange to see you only during those hours you specified. He would block out his story the evening of the first day and would see you for just a short session on the second day to fill in any holes in his story. SEP suggests that you might be willing to make yourself available to them toward the very end of your vacation, thus allowing you at least a few uninterrupted weeks.
A second possibility which has a great deal of appeal to SEP involves your return trip to the coast -- if you return by train. They suggest that Tom Congdon could travel for a day-and-a-half on the same train (either picking it up somewhere in the midwest and continuing with you to the coast, or boarding with you and leaving the train on the second day out.) Again, of course, Congdon would see you only during the hours specified by you.
Believe me, Shirley, I hate to press you on this during your vacation. But The Saturday Evening Post has been calling me almost daily -- despite the fact that I told them almost a week ago that you were not available for a story at this time. They are so anxious to do this story that they promise me a tremendous national advertising campaign on you and the story during the entire week preceding publication. This will mean the advertising budget in behalf of the Shirley Booth story in tens of thousands of dollars.

Security carried her outside and left her… When we finally left the club she was gone and we ended up finding her crawling down the hallway in the morning as we were heading out for the day. Some Hispanic family took her home and when she woke up she didn’t know anyone and none of them spoke English…. REAL classy! Definitely a disgrace to the Dale women. Keep up the good work.

Posted by admin on December 11, 2008 I want to get a Tattoo on the top of my foot. My passion in life has always been Softball so I would really like to incorporate it into the tattoo. I also want to make sure the tat is feminine. Does anyone have any ideas for a tat or know of anyplace I can see a tattoo like this on the net. I have searched and searched and havent found anything with this particular theme.

I would go to a good tattoo artist and look at their portfolio. Do your research and find a good one. Then get them to do an ORIGINAL drawing incorporating your ideas. You might have to put a deposit down for the drawing but it is worth it to have an original tattoo that no one else has.

So we feel bad for going off on the Olsens style lately, were usually superfans, supporting most of their style choices.  After yesterdays post of MK wandering around LA after leaving LAX, we found this image of Ashley leaving the same airport.  Notice how similar but different their outfits are.  The concept is basically the same: travel/comfort chic.  But the execution is totally different.  Though MK opted to go for the homeless look, Ashley manages to appear pretty well put together.  They key is to balance fitted and loose clothing.  Yes, you heard us.  Theres a detailed equation that goes with the layering trend, and were going to show you how its done.  Take note at Exhibit As choice of pairing leggings with her loose (but tailored) coat.  Now Exhibit B on the other hand, goes for an extremely long, floor dragging length coat (dont even want to know how many germs she has following her) and adds a very long scarf and long tee under it as well.  If it were up to us, wed loose the scarf, shorten the coat a bit, and add a wide belt to the whole look.  Voila.  There you have it ladies.  The secret to layering success.

Why are stars treated so differently than the rest of us? She adopts on Thursday morning, meets with the U.S. Consular on Thursday afternoon. Is provided a passport in time to get back to the U.S. by the end of the weekend? Meantime, the rest of us have to go through mounds of legal paperwork and long periods of time waiting for Visa numbers to come available, medical examinations, immunizations, interviews etc. Something just isnt right with the system. I am applying for an immigrant Visa for my wife of two years and my two adopted sons. They tell me it will take several months or possibly over a year to complete this. Can anyone tell me why they (stars) are treated differently by the government? I mean I understand their star treatment by shops, resturants etc. But by the very Government that says all Men (Women) are equal? Any thoughts on this.
